Cat started professional life in academia completing a PhD and postdoctoral research fellowships in HIV and personalised medicine. Since moving into television, as a freelancer she's worked on several high-profile factual projects for PBS, Netflix, CNN Original Films, Bloomberg Originals and British broadcasters including the BBC, Sky Arts and Channel4.  Her 2013 directorial debut, with Wingspan, The Joy of Logic (BBC4) was nominated for several awards including both Best Newcomer and Best Science and Technology at the Grierson Documentary Awards, Best Science Documentary at the BANFF World Media Festival, and won the Best International Documentary Prize at AFO50.  Other Wingpsan projects have included Computer Says Show (Sky Arts), which was nominated Best Original Programme at the Broadcast Awards, Race for the Vaccine (BBC2) was nominated Best Science and Natural History at the RTS Awards, and The Joy of Winning (BBC4) was winner of Best International Documentary at AFO54. Her film The Battle to Beat Malaria (PBS NOVA) was nominated in the Outstanding Science and Technology Documentary category at the 2024 News and Documentary Emmys, won the RTS Craft and Design Award for Best Design, and a Gold Award from the esteemed AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards.
